ethernet power consumption

more of a hardware question than software.
Im linking up an ENC28j60 to a PIC and noticed the ENC module draws 180ma. According to the chips spec sheet this is correct.(as I have yet to initialise it)

Is this a normal sort of operational consumption?
Is it just a thirsty chip or are most ethernet devices in the similar ball park?
I suspect the latter due to the amount of processing the device is required to do.
