How can I do an effect like this one?
PostPosted: Sat Dec 11, 2010 6:10 pm     Reply with quote

Hello people.

Well, christmas is just around the corner and I am thinking to make some LEDs lghts....

So, I was searching over the youtube some inspiration and found one.

Look this small piece of a video:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=SKe67xZG8Sg#t=91s

Would anyone know how I can make the effect that he did? Like a PWM over the 8 outputs...

Maybe he has done 8 pwm in software?

Here is his website with the source code, but he did in assembly.

http://picprojects.org.uk/projects/ledchaserpwm/index.htm

Just need an idea.

thanks

LED Candles
PostPosted: Sat Dec 11, 2010 7:23 pm     Reply with quote

Back in 2005, Nuts'n Volts magazine published an article on LED candles, where the author used the Basic Stamp. I converted it at the time to PICBASICPro, but do not have the code available now... you might be able to find the article on their website.

As I recall, it was something of a random number generator which produced the PWM in software. You could adjust the generator variable to modify the flickering effect. If you used, say, two orange, a red and a yellow LED together, you could get a pretty good effect. I liked it and was going to make up a batch, but life got in the way... (I was in Afghanistan with the US Army at the time...)

HTH.

Well, yes it is helping! For now I am reading the topic you suggested and trying to understand the concept of the "Phase Shifted Counters".

Well, It is not too difficult to do... I just did 3 PWM channel...

But now I will do a couple of optimizations....

Let´s study more now...
