Static discharge sensitivity
PostPosted: Sat Jan 16, 2010 6:46 pm     Reply with quote

This is a little off topic, I know, but I get my best ideas from you guys.

I have found that my microcontroller resets or goes wacky when there is an electrostatic discharge nearby (not to the board or wires).

I am not using a four-layer PCB.

Any ideas as to what on the PIC18F4550 might be sensitive? Any ideas how to fix this?

Thanks!

Any wire can act as an antenna to pick up ESD. Longer wires are worse. Read up on ESD Prevention, and add bypass caps or PI filters to the likely suspects.
