ICD S40 Communication Querry
PostPosted: Wed Oct 17, 2007 9:01 am     Reply with quote

Im currently trying to establish communication between the an ICD S40 and a DLP-245PB-G board.

Im using version 2.16 #163 of the ICD Interface Program, and it returns an ID of 0x3FFF for the pic16f877a thats on the dlp-245pg-g board.

Attempting to "Test Target" the icd program returns the message "Target could not be detected"

It also gives me the option to run a hardware diagnostic, and I did. I observed the following;

- Target Vdd = 5.21V
- My target chip is supported (PIC16F877A)
- Vpp = 12.9 volts on MCLR pin
- Device ID = 3FFF
- square waves generated on Clk and data pins are identical, except the clk line toggles from 0 to 5 volts, whereas the data line toggles between 0 and 0.6volts.

has any one experienced this sort of problem before, and or would be willing to provide some help ?

It may be loaded down by some external circuit.

I assume that you have the ICD connected to the 5-pin connector JP3
on the DLP board. Do you have it connected correctly ? See the
pinout of JP3 in the schematic on page 16 of the DLP data sheet:

Here is the pinout of the CCS ICD connector:

Theres nothing connected to the board im using except vcc and on pins 19(vcc) and a jumper from 19 to 16, since im using external power. And then the grounds on pins 1,10,13,15 & 40.

Customer support from DLP designs suggested that the ICD S40 is probably at fault since B6 and B7 are isolated from all other circuitory. The thing that gets to me is that I bought two ICD S40 units within two days, and they both have that same issue.
