Can't get MachX to see COM ports

I looked thru the documentation and could not find the solution so I thought I'd ask here. I have installed the whole package on my PC(XP box):

PCHW C compiler and IDE
CCS PDF files
Microchip Data Sheets
MPLAB Plug-in
MACH-X Device Programmer

On another PC(Win98 box) that I am going to program my PICs and that I have the MachX attached to(actually it is not attached to either PC right now) I have only installed:

Mach-X Device Programmer.

When I run MachX on the XP box, it comes up and allows me to select a serial port(but won't continue because I do not have the programmer attached).
When I run MachX on the Win98 box(the one I only installed the Mach-X Device Programmer) it will not allow me to select serial ports, that field is blank. The serial ports on that machine all work just fine, I have verified them.
Is it because I only installed Mach-X and not the rest of the package.

Did you install the MachX drivers on the Win98 box ?

An inspection of the zipped driver file shows that it has
files for an FTDI RS232 to USB chip.

Normally, Win98 requires drivers to be installed for USB devices.
You normally don't have to do this with Win2K or XP. I don't
own a MachX unit, so I don't know for sure, but I suspect this
is your problem.

It figures and I should have known. I assumed(you know what happens when you assume) that the installer would install the correct files.

Got it! Instead of putzing around with drivers and Win98(I did not want to have fun) I just installed the whole thing(instead of just Mach-X) on my programming machine. It works fine.
