ICD control v.2.28, firmware version 1.39 broken?

I have a Microchip ICD1. With ICD control program V.2.28, firmware 1.39 (for the 18F series) seems "broken"--the control program won't even display its graphic. 1.38 works better--it is capable of downloading ".cof" files, but responds with "bad file format or checksum" for ".hex" files.

Anyone out there with similar problems?

where do you get the version 1.38?

My problem is i can't program my pic 18F4550 because i have no firmware working !!!

if yours can programm my pic i would be greatfull if you can send me it
