I too am having the same problems. ??? in the version number and the fuses read incorrectly from the compiler. CCS tells me they have verified the problem and will be releasing an upgrade.
I was able to uninstall ccsload via add/remove programs (Vista) and then reinstall the MachX program from my original CD. Once I did that I did a firmware "upgrade" to the MachX which downgraded it to the older firmware and everything is working okay again.

Got around to digging out my MachX and installed the latest version of ccsload and usb drivers from download section at ccsinfo.com.
All seems to work now.
However my MachX is PCB rev 4 it seems and I have updated the firmware to 0.87 which was found in my PICC directory. I don't recall downloading this (I sometimes forget what I had for breakfast !) so I am not sure where it came from.
Is firmware 0.87 the latest and greatest available for my MachX ?
I looked in ccs downloads and couldn't find updates for MachX firmware.
