POTS Data Modem
PostPosted: Fri May 30, 2008 10:09 pm     Reply with quote

Believe it or not the Telephone interface is alive and well.

Does anyone have a suggestion for a embedded POTS Modem - preferable a small module that can be embedded on a project board? A radio receiver driven by a PIC 16F877 FYI.

I know about Cermetek as a supplier.

Any others come to mind?

The applications unit volume is only several hundred per year so I'm not sure that building my own would ever have a payback.

Thanks in advance for the help!

:-)

POTS modem

It's best to use a premade modem that is already 'certified' by the DOC or FCC,'homemade stuff' will need type approval for your product($$$)
Perhaps the easiest solution ,if space permits, is to buy regular PC external modems and gut them and use into your product.
For several years I used'old' 8 bit modemcards as well as 'super I/O' cards(2 RS232,floppy,hard disk,LPT) to easily interface with PICs.They are/were cheap, reliable, and very easy to cut code for.
Just another option....

I think multitech is a good idea..

If pinouts match, you could change from POT to cellular to IP just by changing modules. (sockect modem series)

Solution - POTS data Modem

OK - I have a good solution - the RJ Modem series from MultiTech. Easy to use - in just an hour or so I have a working Modem Solution. This little modem works great! Very simple to use.
