Serialize a 24FJ64xxx without using an EEProm?
PostPosted: Sun Apr 13, 2008 6:50 am     Reply with quote

I am moving from the 16F877 to the 24FJ64A004 and was using the 877's internal eeprom to contain a serial number. Since the 24FJ series has no EEproms, I am looking for some way to serialize it at programming time without having to re-compile each time... (probably impossible but thought someone might have figured a way...)

Haven't tried, and not at a computer with the CCS stuff on at present, but it might be possible to do it with the normal serialise command, depending on what CCS set the 'non existent' EEPROM origin to on these chips. I have used serialise in the past, on one of the old 16 chips, which didn't have an EEPROM, and on this, the serialise command, was assuming the EEPROM origin was at the normal 0x2100, and all I did, was use serialise with the 'address' to use set at -7440. This then wrote the data to 0x3F0 in the main memory (0x2100-7440 = 0x3F0..)!. The address accepts a 32bit value, so if the compiler assumes the origin is 0xF0000, it might well work....

Best Wishes
