New Version - Reg Files are not working
PostPosted: Sun Jan 20, 2008 7:09 am     Reply with quote

Hi,

I am using CCS since now more than 3 Years and again I am running in a problem with updating the compiler.

I used 4.063 and it was running with my reg files that i got in nov.07, now I tried to use the newest version of pcwh and now ---.crg Files are not recognized !!!

Is it really so much of a problem to keep the crg compatible ??

Any ideas how I can fix it ?

Of course on monday morning I can ask CCS for new crg files but I rather like to get fix for now and the future.

best regards

Andreas

I have the latest version PCWH and my reg files (updated in November) work with no problems. I've had a few cases where installing a new version overwrites the reg files so I keep backup copies. If you have a backup copy try putting them into the PICC directory to see if that helps.

Just email CCS, and get new files. I'm suprised this has not happened to you before. CCS 'outdate' the registration files every so often. Usually about 18 months, so that even if somebody has a 'complete' ripped off copy, with registration files, after a while, they will no longer work.

Use the original (untouched) reg file sent by CCS. With any try to open or edit it you will destroy it.
Copy and paste the original .crg file sent to you by CCS.

Hi,

Thanks for Your comments.

I have found now, that version 4.064 is working with my .crg files well, but after downloading 4.066 it will not accept this .crg files, although I paid my extended 1 year support fee !!

It makes really no sense to me, to outdate .crg files for a version I paid for. As I understand I am paying to buy the compiler, I am not paying a license fee for a limited time period. Am I right ????

best regards

I don't think CCS puts a time limit on your compiler. I've never seen it.
But the .crg files will only work up to a certain version number. For any
higher version number of the compiler, you need to get a new .crg file
from CCS.

For example, you might buy vs. 4.022 a year ago, and you get a .crg file
at that time. That .crg file will work with all versions up to a cut-off
point, such as vs. 4.065. If you buy 4.066, then you need to get a
new .crg file, and it will work for (let's say) all versions up to vs. 4.100.
Then if you download vs. 4.101, you need to email CCS and ask for
a new .crg file. That's how it works.
