CCS and Microchip ICD2 support
PostPosted: Sun Dec 02, 2007 3:31 am     Reply with quote

Hi,
last version of CCS C compiler seems to support ICD2 natively.
- Has anyone tried it?
- Does it support it via USB or RS232 only? I personnaly did not found any information on how to activate it! I have my ICD2 (Original recent version of Microchip one with flashable firmware, not a clone) and I can debug using MPLab via USB, but I did not found anywhere to activate it in the last version of CCS C IDE !!!

Anyone can help please ?

Regards
octal

ICD2

Hi Octal,

I have tried CCS with the ICD2, both serial and USB, but no luck.

There does not appear to be any documentation about this.

Regards,

I'll try and let you know.

Hi,
I downloaded the plugin from "MPLABĀ® ICD2 & REAL ICE Interface" link on the previous indicated page (my last post), and when I install it installs and says that it can not strat app because "MPMapTrace.dll not found" on your system.

When I start now the debuger intreface from PCWH IDE in the config I can see the Microchip ICD2 listed, but not seems to be able to communicate with it correctly. It says that "MpMapTrace.dll" is not found. Anybody can tell from where this dll comes ? (MpLab8 perhaps????)

Has anyone succeeded at making it to install and work ?

PS. Under MPLab (I use v7.50) I can correctly connect and debug using my ICD2, and it's a true original Microchip ICD2 not a clone.

Regards
octal

Try MPLAB 8.0

If that doesn't work please e-mail CCS support.

It worked very well after having installed MPLab 8.0 . Very very nice work. Thanks CCS. This let me use my ICD2 directly from within the CCS IDE.
Since I do use MPLab7.5 for my devs (because some software does not work fine under 8.xx versions ... especially PICOS18), I switched back to 7.5 using mpSwitch Smile now I use both.

Thank you very well. Smile

CCS firmware
PostPosted: Sat Jan 19, 2008 1:51 pm     Reply with quote

Hi,

I downloaded the plugin for MPLAB ICD2, and now it's listed on the debug window, but I get this error message every time I enable the debugger:

"ICD unit does not have CCS firmware loaded"

The question is: Can I download this firmware to the MPLAB ICD2?

By the way, I'm using MPLAB v8.00 and CCS C compiler v.4.032,

Thanks in advance,

Read the CCS FAQ page about using the ICD2 within the CCS IDE (PCWH).
Note the version required.

Where does ICD2 install
PostPosted: Mon Feb 25, 2008 5:20 pm     Reply with quote

Hi,

I've read everything that I can find on ICD2 with PCW, but I haven't been able to make it work yet. I have the demo MPLAB 8.01, IDE 4.067, and PCM/H/D4.066d. I have downloaded and installed the ICD2API dlls multiple times, but I can't see any change within the CCS IDE
- using Debug/Enable Debug I get the "Can't load FT2dxx Drivers" error.
- Debug/Debug Windows/Configure still shows 'No Communication'.
- Tools/Debug shows only the PCW option, which if selected, does not appear to do anything.
- Selecting Debug/IDE shows the ICD connection dialog, but only for COM3, and gives 'Cannot detect ICD type'.
- I don't see anything new in Options/Tools dialog.
- The posts make reference to there being difficulties 'starting' the ICD2 software, but all I see in the directories are DLLs - is there a Windows service that is supposed to be started? Or an executable somewhere else that needs to be started before/during/after the CCS IDE?

Posts seem to be making reference to a dialog that I'm not seeing at all, so I thought maybe it was the separate ICD program, but that shows just the same connection problem of only COM3 and nothing about ICD2. None of the posts seem to say where the dialog referred to actually is.

I've probably overlooked something really obvious - but can someone point me in the right direction?

I really need to quickly evaluate CCS as an alternative to the standard Microchip compiler (it looks like it might have more library support for what we are doing), but we have lots of ICD2 units around and I can't even begin until I can get CCS working with ICD2...

Maybe there is a straightforward 'how to' somewhere that includes what I must be missing?

Thanks for any and all help!

ps In case it matters, I am suffering under Vista...

Today I'm trying to debug with ICD2. I got mplab8.00 CCS 4.068 and ICD2 clone, when I press enable debugger the same error code FTDXXX drivers but this error is because you have selected an ICD debugger, when I change the debugger to mplab icd2, there occurs another problem ERROR CODE 85DE0185.

Really I think this is because I don't have a micro connected, but if you know the answer, it is really appreciated.

thanks

If you have problems with Microchip ICD2 and MPLAB, you should ask
them in the Microchip ICD forum:
http://forum.microchip.com/tt.aspx?forumid=49
Or, if your ICD2 clone has a forum, ask about it in that forum.
