i have just got some of these micros but am struggling to program them. i am using an in circuit programmer so have been putting

MCLR -> pin 1
+5v -> pin 11 and 32
GND -> pin 12 and 31
data -> pin 26
clock -> pin 25
and 4.7k ohm resister between pin 36 and GND

is there something i am doing wrong?

You need to tell us what in-circuit programmer you are using.

If you are using the CCS ICD0-U40 or Microchip ICD2, then this post
has links that show the required connections, and required resistor
values.

got it soughted was using the wrong pins for data and clock should be 39 and 40
