RTOS - which one is better
PostPosted: Thu Sep 13, 2007 1:07 pm     Reply with quote

a) uCOS-II is pre-emptive multi-tasking
b) Salvo is cooperative multi-tasking

As such Salvo uses less RAM than uCOS-II but uCOS-II is a true multi-tasking..

Anyhow CCS does not support uCOS-II and Salvo. And also CCS is not even planning to port any one of them..

Since CCS has a built-in RTOS based on FreeRTOS.

Any idea how good is CCS built-in RTOS compared to industrial standard uCOS-II and popular Salvo ????

Maybe CCS should do a comparison between RTOSes !!!!

Everyone has very personal opinions on rtos.

Mine is that the pic processors (prior to 24/30 parts) are simply not suitable for any rtos - no stack.

Use fast interrupts that set flags telling the main (background) loop what to do.
