Very quick 16F677 I2C question: Can it support FAST mode?
PostPosted: Thu Jun 07, 2007 5:29 pm     Reply with quote

Can the 16F677 support "FAST" I2C mode? I didn't see it in the instruction manual.

I'm using the 16F677 as an I2C slave to another PIC micro which acts as the I2C master.

Thanks!

Yes, FAST mode is supported.
Please note the minimum clock speeds required in order to comply with the I2C specifications. From the PIC16F690 datasheet table 17-14:
- 100kHz mode requires a clock speed minimum of 1.5MHz.
- 400kHz mode requires a clock speed minimum of 10MHz.

More information on I2C in the PIC processor can be found in the application notes Using the PICmicro MSSP Module for I2C Communications and Using the PICmicro SSP for Slave I2C Communication
