why the port pins of PIC is called Ra,Rb,Rc etc......

I'm looking at the spec sheet for 16F877A page 7.

They call the port portA prortB BUT then go on to call the pins
RA1 RA2.. so it makes sense that the compilers follows that standard.

ps:following the spec sheet naming convention isn't done consistently

Most likely, somebody at Microchip decided that's how it will be done. I guess since it's their product they can call the components whatever they want. Just as long as I can decipher the spec. sheet and make the parts do what I need.

This notation comes from Microchip. Microchip names are relative to the Registers that controls ports RegisterA ... for PortA ..; so RA0 is lower bit of the Register that maps PortA .... and so on.
