I'm having 2 programmers ICD - U40.
One is fw 1.39 and the other is fw 2.09.
With the fw 1.39 I'm experiencing no problems.
However with the one that has fw 2.09 I cannot detect the target when I want to program.
Now I wanted to reflash the 2.09 to 1.39; however I get an out of bounds (-1) error. So that's impossible from icd.exe.
So either there is a problem with v 2.09 or either the programmer is dead. I'm still able to download firmware into the ICD-U40.
How can I know it's dead? Is there another way to downgrade the firmware (command line ?)
please your advice,
tks

If you run the ICD alone ( that is not within the CCS ide) it has buttons "test target" and "test icd". I'll assume you have tried this already. Next under advanced manually select the specific chip. Now if the messages don't specifically tell you which signal is missing Ex MCLR then check B7 B7 Mclr vdd ground for correctness. The ICD help has the RJ11 pin outs but they will cross ( wire 6 will become wire 1) on the way to the target. If the pins are correct then its the right time to look into the downloaded firmware in the ICDU-40.

hardware is 100% OK.
New firmware can be downloaded into the unit also.
I've asked for a replacement.. Guess it's dead..
