18f87j10 device help please

hello all
i have just replace 18f87j10 with 8720 footprint. placed the 10uf cap as in data sheet (for the internal regulator), put envreg pin to VDD. connected icd 2. self test was all pass. but on connection it said the device replied 0x00 or something which is not device number. i checked PGD, PGC connetion and it seems fine as well. so now i am confused. please help me what i should check next (other than my brains)

n.b. capcacitor output is 2.5 volt shows internal regulator is working

Your question is "Why doesn't the 18F87J10 return the proper device I.D.
when used with ICD2 ?".

You should ask this in the Microchip ICD2 forum. Tell them your
version of MPLAB. (Try it with the latest version).
