Compiler problem
PostPosted: Sat Apr 08, 2006 4:03 am     Reply with quote

My CCS compiler just started having problems. I will contact CCS but I'm sure they won't respond until next week, so I thought I might see if anyone has any suggestions.
I was working with it and then went away for a while. When I came back I am now getting the following error right at the beginning of the compile cycle:

"Access violation at address 00405807 in module 'Pcw.exe'. Read of address 0000001C". I really need this over the weekend.

Compiler version 3.2.3.2 for IDE, PCB, PCM, PCH. I am using the USB ICD, ICD-U40.

Problem exists with or without the USB (ICD) cable plugged. Nothing has been touched on the computer. I have reinstalled all of the software.

uninstall, delete the remaining folder (usually C:/Program Files/PICC) and reinstall

Dont forget to keep any modified drivers, if you have any saved in these folders

Jim,
Every time I have encountered this it has been a problem with my code. Certain problems are not handled well by the compiler and it throws an exception. To find out if it is the code or the compiler, try compiling another SHORT test program. If it compiles successfully the problems is likely with the code.

How I localize the problem is to comment out sections of the code until the error goes away then put them back until it reappears which tells you which section of the code is causing the crash.

Good Luck!

If you delete your installation folder, make sure that you first save your
license file (or files). These are essential. The compiler will not work
without them. They have the file extension ".CRG"
