Level Translator
PostPosted: Wed Mar 22, 2006 11:03 am     Reply with quote

Hello All,

I'm using a PIC18F252 at 5V and I need to interface it to a device running at 3.6V, level signals are different so I need a level translator like MAX3390E but in a PDIP package for testing... (MAX3390E package is a TSSOP)
Does anyone know a substitute for MAX3390E?

Please advice
Thank you in advance

You're not likely to find much in a DIP package these days. Sad but true for hobbyists. In my consulting business I can only think of one or two DIP parts I've used in a new design in the past five years. The manufacturers don't sell many at production volumes anymore so they simply quit packaging chips in the DIP format.

Unfortunately there are zillions of level translator chips that will do what you want in SMD packages, ranging from SOT-23 single gate parts to SO and SSOP packages with bus-wide level translating transceivers.

Don't fight the problem, work with it.
How about a chip converter? Change the smt to a dip.

I think, Texas Instruments has the biggest producer of level shifters and 5V-tolerant logic chips. Try this search tool http://focus.ti.com/logic/docs/translationselection.tsp?templateId=5985&navigationId=11413
