PIC not working anymore ... + Tiny Bootloader
PostPosted: Thu Mar 16, 2006 5:03 am     Reply with quote

Hello, i use a PIC 18F458 and Tiny Bootloader 1.8.0.35

When i tried to change the software, it worked for month without any problem.

Today, it is not possible to bootload it and the PIc seems to not working anymore.

What can i do ?
Do i have to change the PIC ?
Is it a serial port cable problem that could make it fail ?

An bad contact with this cable could have cause this problem ?

Please any help would be welcome.

Many thanks.
Best regards.

...same problem here but it turned out to be a WinXP issue and not bootloader related, so I had to return to the good ol' Win2K; what OS are you workong on?

I'm not sure that is a XP problem ....it was for me but not necessary for you ....however you could try working on another OS (don't you have access to any other computer with '98 or 2000 ???) and if it works, you know (sadly) what you have to do (switch to other M$ :( )
...'till now I didn't figure out why on earth XP is causing such problem but it's definitely some sort of serial port problem, and not hardware related ...actually I had many other serial-port related issues on my clients and switching from XP to 2000 solved them. If anyone could help me either find out where's the catch, I'd gladly say a big big "Thank you!"....

ok, have you changed the pic with a new one? have you tried to reprogram the bootloader? ...why don't you just flash your program and see if it works, and then try to flash the bootloader and see if you can update your program via it?

I can't really do that ... that's the problem, my pic is soldered on a pcb.
The only thing left to do should be to change the pic ... but i would like to know what happened to not have this again ...

Do you have the possibility to connect an ICD?
How did you program the bootloader into the chip the first time?

With an ICD connection you can read the memory of the PIC and check the bootloader program is still there.

You ask a lot of questions, but you don't tell us what you have tried to narrow down the problem. What do you see is happening? Is there any response from the bootloader or nothing at all? Without more information it is impossible for us to help you.

I can't connect an ICD.

I did program the bootloader into the chip the first time with MPLAB.

I tried to sold another pic and nothing is working, it should be because i have a problem on my board, i hope so.

What i see is happening is that my pic is not working anymore and i can't put a newx programm.

I tried to checj MCLR VSS and VDD and there is nothing so it is possible that there is a problem on my board, any suggestion to check the hardware ?
