18F4520 & edu version of compiler?
PostPosted: Tue Mar 21, 2006 1:31 am     Reply with quote

Hi everyone,

I have been using my educational version of the compiler to program 18F452s. I now need to buy some more chips, but MicroChip has phased into 18F4520 - will I be able to program this chip with my current compiler version?

The edu section of CCS website does not indicate it as an option (http://new.ccsinfo.com/content.php?page=education)

Any experience with this?

Thanks!

I would guess that you would have to upgrade, but contact CCS to be sure.

However, I checked for you, and Digikey still has 4896 18F452s available in 40 pin DIP packages. Newark has 224 and Mouser has 775.

They're not rare yet, so if CCS says you have to upgrade, it might be cheaper to spend your money on 452s rather than a compiler upgrade for now.

Just a thought
