20 Mhz oscillator with ACE kit
PostPosted: Wed Sep 21, 2005 8:16 am     Reply with quote

Hello,

I am using the ACE kit of CCS. I pulled out the 20 Mhz crystal from the socket, but when I plugged back in, it wasn't sending any pulse to the PIC.
May be I have plugged it wrong way in. Can anyone please advice me the correct way to plug back the oscillator. It would be nice if anyone can give me the pin configuration or the data sheet of this particular oscillator.

Thanks

On the board near the oscillator socket, there should be a mark
that indicates Pin 1. It could be the symbol "1" or it could be a dot.

On the metal oscillator, notice that 3 of the corners are round, but
one of them is square (and sharp). The square corner is pin 1.
Pin 1 on the oscillator must go into pin 1 on the socket.

If installed it reversed and applied power, the oscillator may not
work any more (even if you install it correctly later).
You might have to get a new one from CCS.
