USB or Ethernet?

I am going to use a PIC to power on and off a pc in a car and would like to know a better interface to use to be able to tell the pc to shutdown linux without just cutting the power. Serial would be the first logical choice but there is no serial port on the pc. Are there any advantages or disadvantages of using one versus the other?

Just a thought here.....

A USB to Serial adapter:

Would take care of the serial problem.

A simple VB.....dohhhh, sorry forgot we were speaking Penguin here :-)

You'll have to come up with the rest.

Serial Comms from a PIC a amazingly simple/easy. You'll only need to add a RS232 level shifter to your board.

I didn't even think of a usb to serial converter. That will definately be the way to go.
