PIC18F6680 CAN setup....
PostPosted: Thu Jul 14, 2005 2:46 pm     Reply with quote

I have built a couple of projects already using the CAN on the PIC18F2580 and it works great. I have been contemplating using a PIC18F6680 chip in another project, and I noticed it has two CANTX pins. What is the deal with this? It wasn't obvious from looking at the datasheet why there is a CANTX1 and a CANTX2, and not just a CANTX. There is only one CANRX pin, so it doesn't make any sense to me.

Can someone fill me in on what I am missing?

Thanks,

-Ted

CANTX1 is briefly described in the data sheet. This archived thread
from comp.arch.embedded has a bit more on it:

Thanks. This was very helpful. The datasheet is totally vague on it. It literally has one line that says CANTX2 is a "Complimentary transmit output or CAN bus bit time clock" which doesn't help much when trying to understand what you would actually use it for. I have yet to see a tranceiver that needs a complimentary input, so it seemed strange.

I know what to do now.

Thanks,

-Ted
