I am receiving rs232 data from a GPS module (no level shifting required) perfectly OK on pin a3. When I change the code to receive on pin a4 I dont get any data. Any ideas?

Note that RA4, has a Schmitt triger type input buffer. Hence a signal driving it, has to reach 4.25v, for a 'high', as against only 2.4 volts on the other inputs (assuming you are running on a 5v supply). A pull up resistor, may make it work.

Best Wishes
