hyperterminal meaning

THere are several abreviation as DSR,DCD,CTS,RING,ERROR,BREAK, TXD,RXD,RTS,DTR, what all these meanins?

I know TXD, and RXD is transmit and receive data, what else, I have a RS232 communication using a inverter very well for a long time, certainly It stopped working, no communication at all, I need to find out what is wrong with it by monitoring it using Hyperterminal, but I do not know the meaning it?
