Moving CCS to another computer
PostPosted: Sun Jul 25, 2004 9:47 pm     Reply with quote

I've gotten a "new" P3/700 laptop to replace my old P133 one and am trying
to move my ccs compilers over to it. I installed MPLAB 6.6 and then
installed my initial CCS version (2.26 or some such), then I installed the
latest PCM I had gotten under my last maintanance contract, 3.18. This
update couldn't find my .REG file. I copied the .REG from /PICC to
/program files/picc and re-ran the 3.18 update. This time it said all
was well and installed into MPLAB 6.6. I'd already run the MPLAB6pi.exe
install, so that already had the links into MPLAB.

Now the problem - When I compile from within MPLAB I get this error:
"Error. The selected compiler "PCM" is not installed on this PC"

Obviously something went quite wrong with the install and update. Can
anyone tell me what I goofed up?

<sigh>,

You have the run the CCS "plugin" program, in order to use the
compiler with MPLAB. Get the latest version here:

As I noted, I have run the most recent plugin. The CCS compiler does
appear in the tools list and is pointing to the correct executable, it just
replies that PCM is not installed, when, there it is. I'm concerned,
convinced rather, that it is a licensing thing and that moving it to
another computer is not as easy as just re-installing the packages on
the other machine.

Did you put the new PCM.crg file in the same folder?

Recently I installed the CCS compiler temporarily on a laptop for a field update and had no problems at all. Your update procedure didn't go flawless, maybe this has something to do with your current problems. Have you tried to run the plug-in program again? It's easy and fast so wouldn't hurt to try.

A mistake I made the first time was to select the wrong CCS toolsuite in MPLAB. Under "Project/Select Language Toolsuite..." there are two options, "CCS C Compiler" and "CCS C Compiler for PIC12/14/16/18", only the second option works.

All,

I did indeed manufacture a pcm.crg in the executable folder. I've also
installed the update several times. I'll have to try again with the
plugin install as well. I thought that I used the cannonical install routine:
MPLAB in
CCS in
plugin in

I guess I've got to try a few combinations (ick) to see which one is the
correct one?

Just a remark:
Are you installing CCS in "C:\program files\PICC"? I noticed that installing it to another directory is not always working.

MPLAB error
PostPosted: Mon Jul 26, 2004 11:30 am     Reply with quote

For me I have always had to install the CCS first, the plugin second and then MPLAB last to get them to work. Otherwise I get the same error you are encountering. If you have installed the plug-in try re-installing the MPLAB.
