16f84 ORG Range
PostPosted: Wed Apr 21, 2004 9:58 pm     Reply with quote

I'm using a 16f84 device.
When compiling why would the following give me an error: Invalid ORG range? I thought the stack range can be up to 1FFFh.

Thanks in advance.

The code that gives an error:

#org 0x1EE0, 0x1EEF
const char Build_Date[] = __DATE__;
#org 0x1EF0, 0x1EFF
const char Build_Time[] = __TIME__;

The _address range_ of the processor, is 1FFF, _but_ on the 16F84, only 3FF words are physically implemented. Look at the 'memory organization' diagram in the chip's data sheet.
The compiler knows the upper address that is available.
The 'stack', has nothing to do with the physical ROM.

Best Wishes
