Hi all
In a (yet another) new project I need to design a PIC8F452-based system which would collect information about various events during the day and call the office (using a socket modem, over standard phone lines, a local call) and dump the data back to the base. The data size will be up to 2kb-3kb per night.
If possible, I want to avoid designing a protocol for this communiation. I was thinking about using some professional and well-established protocol such as Z-modem or Kermit. These also support error detection/recovery which is a huge bonus. Is it possible to use any of the mentioned methods on a PIC? If so, does anyone know about any code already available? Or is it too much for a PIC18F452? If so, does anyone have any other suggestions? All comments are welcome. Thanks. |

I think I would go for the xmodem protocol. Kermit is obsolete, I don't know any recent applications using it. Zmodem is an evolution of x- and y-modem but too advanced for your application, you can do without the extra code overhead.
Use the terms 'PIC' and 'xmodem' on google for lots of info and code examples. |
