ICD-U40 |

I recently purchased an ICD-U40.
I have installed the latest drivers on both XP and 98SE PCs.
Both exhibit the same problem in that the target chip is not detected.
CCS have sent me a connection diagram for the internal ICD connections.
I have "buzzed" these through to the target.
The target sytem has a 47k pull up on the MCLR pin.
A simple test PIC works in the target so the oscillator is running.
CCS have sent me a replacement unit but this is the same.
Close to sending the whole lot back which is a shame becase it looks realy usefull.
Greateful for any ideas |

Hi
If you are using pcw or pcwh,
-uninstall both pcw and icd.
-close the computer.
-Connect ICD to usb port and proto board with 47K and power.
-install ICD. "i am using 29 august software"
-Still Close the computer.
-ICD and power always connected.
-Install pcw or pcwh.
-compile a simple software.
-And try to open debug on PCW software.
That is only way I am able to use ICD-U.
I am using windows XP. I understarnd your shame about
CCS tech support, i have the same problem.
when all works that is very good product.
But when you have a problem that is a real joke.
gool luck |

The utility that comes with the ICD allows communication with the ICD and the target without PCH. See ICD-U software on the CCS download page.

Hi Snoopy
Thanks for your suggestions. I havn't tried the reinstall route yet.
Just tried an old laptop to see if its PC speed related, exactly the same!
Just firing another Email off to CCS.
The whole thing is just bl--dy time consuming
Nobody else out there having problems with th ICD-U40?

ICDU-40 works |

I installed this recently on a WIN 98SE platform. On a USB port with other devices it correctly reported that there was'n't enough power for the ICDU-40 from the usb bus ( my target PCB is powered independently so it was not the issue).
On a second USB bus I did not get the lack of power message but the ICD-40 had all the issues you are seeing. It works fine in a third usb hub that is itself independently powered via a walll wart again the target PCB was also separately powered. |

I got a reply by return from CCS.
Connecting the ICD to my own target I assumed that in the case of the U40 the 5V connection was not required.
From CCS
Quote: | ICD-U40 is not powered from the target, however it needs the target voltage so it knows how high the logic signals should be (for example 3V or 5V). |
Connected 5V now working fine.
Never assume anything! |
