icd2 programming the PIC18f8720 |

We are able to get a connection via USB under MPlab 6.01
between the icd2 and the pic18f8720; it appears to program,
with the background debug mode turned off. We are putting
in hex code compiled in picc. The program doesn't run. So
we tried turning on the config bit for background debug.
Again, it appears to program, but then an error comes up,
saying the chip is not in debug mode.
Can someone advise as to what may be wrong, please?
Thanks!

I don't know if this could help you and how much you have played with the ICD2.
After you have programmed the chip without the "DEBUG-mode" you haveto disconnect the ICD2 from the chip, else it can't run the program.
In Rev. A3 Silicon/DATA Sheet Errataon, page 4 it is a note:
"When preforming in-circuit serial programming, verify that power is connected to all VDD and AVDD pins of the microcontroller, and that all Vss ond AVss pins are grounded."
