Yes,just a matter of reading the datasheets, understanding timing diagrams and cutting some code. 2-3 nights will do it.

.. but if you're really asking will I give you the driver to allow a PIC to use SPI to communicate to a CD4094 that's another question.Sorry, that answer is no.

If you Google SPI , CD4094 there is code available. It's up to you to sort through the 5,000,000 hits to find it.

Thanks for the answer temtronic. I don't want the code. I just want to know if it is possible. Thanks. I will try to do that.

This website has a project with CCS code for a CD4094. It's not in
English, but it's still easy to understand. There is also a schematic:

What a nice example!
The material PCM_P dug up is really a very nice starting point.

I am sure you see how to daisy chain to get more digits, but another thing I did some time ago when having to drive multiple LED segments was to AND the high side pin THROUGH a gate ( 74HCT08 ) -- ANDed with the signal from one of the CCP PWM outputs - running at about a 15% duty cycle. This has almost no effect on brightness but reduces battery consumption dramatically.

That said - if you need to show a lot of digits and really want to save power - an LCD panel is also your friend.....
