Interesting project- but I suspect you won't find a lot of folks who work with the PIC ds30 part you want to use.

This dsPIC30F2020 has actually given me so many headaches i.t.o. instability when running at 30MIPS that I will definitely consider changing over to another PIC

if you don't need that many mips - or the extended I/O service there is always the 18f family
