EX_FAT.C not working

How is this possible pcwh comes with this example and it doesn't compile. a lots of errors .. but when i remove this line : #device PASS_STRINGS = IN_RAM only errors that remain are that attemting to make a pointer to a constant ccs version 4.120

It compiles with no problems in MPLAB.

i figured out that # device - pass string in ram.. must be first line.. before fuses..
