USB HID and CDC together
PostPosted: Mon Oct 18, 2010 6:54 am     Reply with quote

Hi All

I'm wondering if it would be possible to run both HID and CDC together from within the software.

EG:

A HID keyboard and a CDC Serial port.

I have seen this is possible with other HID devices but I'm wondering if it can be done with other device classes.

thanks

Simon

I don't think you'd be able to directly enumerate as both classes simultaneously.

Assuming that you want the functionality of both classes on one PIC, you could pull it off by enumerating as a Hub (09h) for the PIC-->HOST enumeration, and then drive the Hub--->CDC/HID interfaces in software.

According to the USB specification, a device class code of 0 in the device descriptor means, that each interface specifies it's own class information. In so far, the usage of multiple independant interfaces in a device is supported by the specification. But of course, there's no support by the CCS USB drivers for this feature, you have to code it on your own.
