Vmware Workstation |

I use Vmware Workstation 7.1 for a development environment.
Base machine is running Win 7 Pro 64 bit, on a Quad I7 with 12 gigs of ram. My development VM is a XP Pro SP3 32bit image, using 4 cores and 4 gb.
Everything else is working pretty good but I'm having a couple of problems with the CCS IDE and 64 programmer.
The PCH IDE is taking a very long time to open, close, or compile.
When trying to program a target, it programs fine, but normally hangs after about half way on verifying.
Anyone running the PCH IDE in a vmware vm and have you had any issues or recommendations? |

Not actually what you are asking for but here are some data points.
I develop in the MPLAB IDE using the CCS compilers (PCD and PCH). I have development environments in Win 7 x64 native and in a VMware VM with XP SP3. I use RealICE and ICD2 in both environments. _________________ Regards, Andrew

Here is a little more information. I found that the IDE opens very slowly, compiles slowly, and closes slowly Only when the source is located on any type of network drive.
If I close ALL Files, then close the IDE, it closes instantly and starts instantly. I can use my other IDE's to open the same network source files and they open fast and have no problem but as soon as I try to open a network source file with the CCS IDE then it crawls.
Definitions:
Slow to Open >= 45 seconds
Slow to Close > 30 seconds
Pause after compile = 15 to 20 seconds
Source Network Drive = Local hard drive, mapped as drive F in VM.
I also tried mapping the vmware shared drive (mapped from Vmware configuration)
I think the IDE is using some different file operation API's then all my other IDE's or there is something CCS is doing that really causes a performance impact on network drives. |
