Using Google I found this:

http://forums.parallax.com/forums/pr.aspx?f=25&m=171953

One thing they mention is a minimum required firmware version. It seems
a few people on that site have experience in FIFO mode, you should try
there. It's a really long thread with a lot of good information.

There are at least two of the posters who have it running in FIFO mode.
Have you sent them a message? I assume you are trying to do this for speed?

Well I am actually building a camera for a little satellite, The camera has an 8bit data bus which is interface to a 64mb low power sram via the FPGA. The usb side of things is just for temp storage and proof of concept. As I am writing all the interface from scratch and not using previous cores or modules i need a simple proof of concept display ie usb drive >> Pc.

And yes, in fifo mode data rate is the highst.
