| 18f97j60 3v and rs232 5v |

Dar friends,
My hardware is PIC18f97j60 with 3.3v and rs232 with 5v supply whether it works or not. Please help me. |

how is the voltage translation done, between 3.3 V to 5 V and vice-versa ??

u mean it should be either 5V or 3.3V supply voltage for both. |

why not use a 3.3volt capable rs232 interface IC like the MAX3232?

It will work but as already suggest, a 3.3V RS232 converter would be a better fit electrically between the PIC and the transceiver however a +5V RS232 would provide a better solution for RS232 because of the high signal level and therefore better signal to noise ratio.

The max3232 still puts out about 10V on the RS232 side running at 3.3 or 5.

Funky. The spec reads +/-5 5 for a 10V swing.
