Debugging with PICKIT2
PostPosted: Mon Nov 30, 2009 4:12 pm     Reply with quote

I am evaluating the PICC product and would prefer to be able to debug using the PICKIT2 directly in the PCW IDE using the Debugger functionality (rather than have to work with MPLAB as well). I note that the help file (v4.038) states :

"CCS ICD(ICD-U40 or ICD-S40) or a CCS MACH X unit is needed to use the debugging functionality"

Since the PCW IDE already supports programming the target device using the PICKIT2 it would make good sense to be able to debug code on the target using the PICKIT2 and the debugging functions of the IDE. Has this been implemented in the latest version of PCW or are there any plans to implement this functionality?

Use Google to find the answer. I just typed this in:

CCS IDE pickit2

The 3rd hit gives me the answer. The one from Skippy Records.

Not to the above question, I guess. It's about debugging.

CCS is saying to support ICD2 with a plugin, but it didn't work for me at times and I didn't try again. I'm not aware of
plans to support PICkit 2, I also don't know, if it possibly could share part of the ICD 2 support (if functional now).

FvM is correct - its about using the PICKIT2 for debugging. There is no issue with compiling using information from Skippy's post.

I'm really looking for an intelligent response from the folks at CCS ...

Seems ridiculous to have to load MPLAB when :

a) you can do the compilation in CCS

b) there are lots of very good features in CCS that aren't in MPLAB

c) switching back and forth between CCS and MPLAB for compilation vs debugging decreases programmer productivity

Yes, I know you can do the compilation from MPLAB but there are many enhanced features offered by CCS that aren't in MPLAB.
