OT: Who does your SMT assembly?
PostPosted: Mon Aug 03, 2009 12:55 pm     Reply with quote

Please forgive the somewhat OT nature of this topic, but at least it's for a PIC/CCS based project!

A while back I found a place in (I believe) the Minneapolis area that did short run SMT assembly for a great price. Of course, now I can't find it again and it seems I didn't bookmark their site. Does anyone have a source for SMT assembly of small runs that's better than Advanced Assembly? I'm really not looking to pay a couple hundred in setup charges and $20 a board.

A little shop called pat-cin does ours.
You could ask them for a quote.

Also heard good things about
Sunstone PCB and Screaming circuits assembly..
From what I remember they are down the street from each
other. So when the boards are done, they only travel a short distance
to the assembler.

'Down the street' may have been an over statement. but not far

Advanced Assembly - great shop, you can supply your own parts and they will build. Everything is machine placed. Low volume OK.

Mettrix Technology - Super shop for turn-key (they buy parts and assemble).

albany ny Jim Frederick is my main contact .

SMT at all scales and they will go from nothing but your gerbers and a paste mask file or on teh other extreme - work with your boards and your mask.
( even non panellized small area PCBS down to about 1" on a side )

We use them because they often waive the setup for a few pilot pieces
based on our history with them.

They also have a killer metal fab shop that we use for custom cases all the time too.
