Accessing a short in #asm

How does one do this? What arguments do I give on the BTFSS opcode?
Code:
somefunc(){
    short sample;

#asm
    BTFSS   what,goes_here
#endasm

}

Compiler: CCS PCM C Compiler, Version 3.105

Basically, BTFSS sample should do (assuming short defaults to int1).
To produce meaningful code, the next instruction should be assembly coded as well.
