Can the microSD card be used in a high noise environment??
PostPosted: Tue Jun 16, 2009 10:25 pm     Reply with quote

Hi,

I am trying to use a microSD card for an industrial control application. Since I have only the simplified specs for the device, I am unable to get answers for some questions.

1. Can the microSD card be used in an high 'electrical noise' environment ??
2. Also what is the max. operating temperature for this device ??

thanks

This is like asking can a transistor work in these environments and temperature ranges. The answer is the same for both, it depends. You need to look at the specific data sheet from the vendor for the product you are using not the generic specification.

Hi,

Thank you for the reply..Ha Ha I understand what you mean. The card I have is meant for a mobile phone, I am thinking this may not be suitable for an industrial application.

Anyway I will check out the company website...

thanks

It could work. May be it will need additional filtering, galvanic isolation, EMI shielding.

I wonder, does anyone know how the EMI susceptibility of an typical SD card (say, SanDisk) compares to that of a PIC running on a +3.3V supply?

A mobile phone left in a hot car on a sunny day can expect to see some pretty high temperatures. Likewise with cold. I would not be surprised if the temperature specs are OK. The electrical compliance depends on your regulation and filtering.
