Quick question about code protection
PostPosted: Tue Mar 17, 2009 5:50 am     Reply with quote

If I turn code protection on with a 16F886 chip, can I turn it off again by downloading a new program? I am afraid to turn it on, then need to make a small change in the field.

Thanks

The key is that you have to perform a full erase of the chip. Code protection, is then off. However this has to be done with a normal 'high voltage' programmer. Can be 'in circuit', but can't be done using low voltage programming. So if you are loading a program with a normal programmer into the chip, then 'yes'.

Best Wishes
