Did you notice, that Microchip has USB code examples, including PIC24 host applications in USB Firmware Framework? The basic usb_host.c has about 5000 lines of code, so it shouldn't be expected an easy walkover. Also porting such a complex code to PCD gonna be a good method to reveal a lot of unknown compiler bugs according to my experience.
