microchip buying ATMEL biz opportunity?
PostPosted: Wed Nov 26, 2008 4:41 pm     Reply with quote

appears to be true - and i only found out because i have a client who is anxious to have me convert a pair of atmel designs for microchip parts -
( at the hardware level as it turns out )

Microchip seems to want to break up atmel biz - and keep just the bits that fit their operations

atmel's non micro controller biz has been on the ropes for a while , and word is they will sell that off quick .

it looks like Microchip is trying for a bit more MCU hegemony here.

there is various commentary on this - here is one example

heads up - it may represent biz opportunities in the end

It is no rumor, Microchip has been hoarding cash for a rainy day, and guess what? It is a rainy day. Atmel has credit problems and is very low on cash, so Mchip spelled out "H-O-S-T-I-L-E Takeover".

Whether it goes through or not I do not know, but this has been in the works for over a month now.
