PCB Layout Software
PostPosted: Sun Jul 27, 2003 12:27 pm     Reply with quote

I'm looking to get a good and affordable(?) schematic/pcb program. I downloaded autoTRAX EDA and while it has lots of features, and there's a special on for $95 for the package, it's pretty buggy - crashed several times both on XP Pro and on ME while checking out the examples.

Anyone have any suggestions for a reasonably priced software package that they're familiar with?

Thanks.

JC

I have been using Eagle for several years. I bought the professional version because I was doing 4 and 6 layer stuff. They have 4 levels (free to pro)

Hi John,

I use Eagle4.0 from www.cadsoft.de
Eagle seems to be the most common layout software in germany.
There is a light version to download for free but with limited performance.
I like working with Eagle, it is easy to learn and it has all tools for designing professional industrial boards. I did'nt like the autorouter, it should be a little bit more sophisticated.

best regards

I still like the totally manual EasyTrax from Protel.au. It's a DOS program that I now use under Windoze 2000. I have used Racal's CAD packages, too expensive; I have used Eagle lite, nice package if a little fiddly to use; I have used Protel 99 SE, too expensive, too hard to drive, but good autorouter.
And still I stick with EasyTrax. It used to be available from Protel's download page for free! However it is only a PCB layout tool - no schematic capture.

John,

I use Easy PC Professional for Windows from Number One. It has both schematic capture and PCB layout. It supports multi layers, Gerber Outputs, Auto routing (a cost option) and many other excellent features. I hope this helps.

hi,
try CIRCAD (www.holophase.com).
it is a very userfriendly program..
i use it from few years for my prof project.
it is free. the ONLY limitation for free version is the
gerber output disabled..
you can save in .bmp format for render on photounity device..
Very good program !!!</font>
