TI CC1101
PostPosted: Tue Mar 15, 2016 4:21 am     Reply with quote

It's finally here, tested code to use the CC1101 wireless transceiver, adapted for CCS compiler.
Now we can use those cheap yet powerful modules from ebay (search for CC1101 and suitable frequency allowed in your country).
The frequency in the example is tuned to 433.92MHz and 1.2Kbaud (optimal range, compromise on data rate and power consumption).
I achieved >100m range in town, not quite breathtaking but definitely good value for money...
To change the settings I suggest to use SmartRF Studio, then Export Registers in HAL format, copy & paste into the code. You can also consult the CC1101 data sheet tables on section 4.2 RF Receive Section for other settings.

The code is based on several examples put together. SPI is done in software which gives more pin flexibility (I always end up unhappy with the built-in HW so I directly turned to SW).
The Main section is very straightforward. Program one module with the TX loop and one with the RX loop. The packet is 10 bytes (0x10 to 0x19).
The watchdog timer in the receiver will reset every 2 seconds approx. if no packet is received (longer flash) and every 1 second for every packet correctly received (short flash).
TIP: Use a strong LED if you go outdoors Very Happy
Code:

Thanks for sharing... looks like an awesome chip.

where did you get yours?... didn't see it in my usual channels.

MCU.
PIN_C7, PIN_C5... are reserved words used in CCS compiler for I/O pins.
When connecting MOSI & MISO use MOSI to MOSI, MISO to MISO.
(MOSI - Master Out Slave In - MCU TX output, CC1101 input
MISO - Master In Slave Out - MCU RX (input), CC1101 output)

Thanks, i could transmit with this method. But now i need to transmit data, for instance a value of temperature (voltage) in LM35 sensor. How can i send this value with the previous code ?

ps: I receive the value with putty, hyperterminal, etc.

Put your data into txBuffer array and call halRfSendPacket() with the number of bytes you put in the buffer. Take a look at the code after the remark //TX

I don't understand if you ARE receiving the value with putty or WANT to do this? To convert it to serial you will need another PIC on the receiving side, receive the data and re-send it as RS232, and using an RS-232 level converter and a serial-to-usb cable connect it to your PC. Alternately you could choose a PIC that has USB built-in but this requires slightly more complex coding.

Hi,
I have some problems when i put data in tx buffer, how can i receive in the rx code? Also i want to know how can I have a hop counter for a network using the transceiver ?

Thank you for your help.
PS:Do you have a contact email?

Hi lscantillo,
I'd rather support you here with the rest of the community so that others would benefit from it later.
Send your code and we'll take a look.

Hi Guy,
this is my main Rx code,i am trying to print the same txbuffer of the principal code of this forum. Also i am trying to display a preset number but it does not work.I am using a USB to Rs232 cable and serial monitor to show the buffer and the values.

void main() {
byte i,bp;
char b[5];
double a=rxBuffer[i];
double z=85.62;
// issue manual POR sequence and SRES:
restart_wdt();
output_high(LED);
delay_ms(400);
output_low(LED);
output_high(CS);
output_high(SCK);
output_low(MOSI);
// strobe CS low/high
delay_us(10);
output_low(CS);
delay_us(10);
output_high(CS);
output_low(SCK); // MY
delay_us(40);
output_low(CS);
delay_us(10);
// wait for CHIP_RDYn :
while (input(MISO));
// SRES:
delay_us(10);
halSpiStrobe(CCxxx0_SRES);
delay_ms(1);
halRfWriteRfSettings();
//i=halSpiReadReg(CCxxx0_FREQ0); for write-read test
delay_ms(1);

// RX:
restart_wdt();
while(1) {
// if(input(GDO0)) {

Hi!
First of all, please send the WHOLE code that you wrote and #include the PIC you are using... You can skip my original functions if you didn't change anything.
Writing your compiler version would also be nice.

If I understand you, you are trying to send a fixed number or string to the serial port but you don't see it on a serial monitor software. What software are you using? Please see CCS example programs for #USE RS232 such as ex_cust.c that explain how to use the serial port. If it doesn't solve the problem maybe you have an oscilloscope to check the communication between PIC and PC.

PS: Communication between PIC and PC is OK. I use CCS C compiler. Putty as serial monitor or Arduino serial monitor. PIC 16F1827 and RF1100SE transceiver.

Did you start with the code I sent for TX & RX? Did it work? (RX flashes each time TX sends a successful packet)? If it works we can concentrate on passing your data instead of the test data.
Anyway you may not see the test data on Putty because the data is 0x10 to 0x19 and these are not plain ASCII characters. Replace 0x10 with 0x40 to make it @ABCDEFGHI . Make the same change on TX & RX.

Next, your code double a=rxBuffer[ i ]; won't work because rxBuffer[ i] is undefined when the main starts. You need to put the statement a=rxBuffer[ i] after rxBuffer received data. Next, rxBuffer is an array of bytes so turning it into Double requires a few more operations.
