Having trouble getting an older MACHX to program a 12f617 from the zif

Haven't used this in some time

software v 5.028, Firmware v1.28, hardware rev2 PID 514

The download to the chip fails, with message:

16:55:51 Assigning chip: PIC12F617
16:55:51 Loaded: PIC12F617
16:55:51 Write FILE -> CHIP
16:55:52 Setting Vpp=0

I am configured for zif socket
Any advice??


Update:
had an old version of ccsload on an old laptop, v4.045, and it worked just fine. I can't run the old version on my win10 just by double clicking the exe, as I get an EAccessViolation
