I just began to use my CCS ICD-U40..
At first it works fine..
After I update my firmware, its stop working with message "could not detect target chip"..
I'm using it with PIC16F877a.. This might sound silly, but i need to know, do I need a bootloader for in-circuit programming using ICD??
I'm not sure whats the real problem, is it because I update my firmware?
the new firmware file is icd-images-firmware-02-25.fw
Please advice! I need to settle this project urgent..

No you don't need a bootloader. A bootloader loads the program over the serial cable,((or some other simular((ie USB)))
ICD-U40 is a ICD:in circuit debugger and programmer.
Did that version of firmware say it supports the PIC 16Fxxx processors??
