missing SD FAT card detection during read

Hi,

I'm using SD FAT card library. It works fine but I notice there is some problem when SD card communication occurs during reading binary file. When SD card is initialize it detect is card ok. But when I start read binary file and for example remove card it return some "buffered"(I think) data after fatgetc().
Is there any way to fast check is card communication OK during reading file?

Conf:
PIC 18F6722
CCS PCWHD 5.035
FAT16 - 1GB card
